Given that I like to play board games I looked to purchase a magnetic scrabble board with wooden/magnetic pieces. I could not find any so I did the next best thing. I turned it into a beautiful woodworking project. The board is made from maple surrounded by a cherry frame. Inlay sections are recessed into the board to obtain the different colors. The letter tokens are also made from maple. Both the board and the letter tokens have magnets which allows for self centering of the letters to the right location. If you shift the board around the pieces do not move. A lazy susan bearing is below the board so ever player gets to see the board upright when it is their turn. When it is time to put the game away, you just hang it on the wall.
PhD Graduation Hat
Just like life a design changes throught out time. Below are some photos of the progression of my PhD hat at MIT. I have sketches more than a year before graduation of how the hat was going to look like. Then over time the design grew organically to the final product.
Bose Speaker Seminar
Bose sponsored a speaker building seminar for power electronics (course 6.131). Even in the most simple projects you have to put beauty into it. I still have those speakers and use them everyday. We are all unique our work should illustrate our diversity and passion!
Masters Graduation Hat
Three beavers just having fun on top of a hat.
Engineering Book Shelf
Enginnering books are heavy! So I decided to make them a dedicated hardwood book shelf that could handle the weight with minimal warping.
Bachelors Graduation Hat
The bachelors graduation hat consist of a little runway for two small carved beavers each carrying a diploma from undergraduate. Put the beavers to work!
When a dear friend got hurt and was using crutches, I felt aesthetics of crutches just made the ordeal worst. So I made a beaver cane to use instead of a standard cold metal crutch. The beaver cane was my first carving.
